An anthology of hour-long "tab" versions of outstanding Broadway plays - some featuring members of the
original stage casts - "Best Plays" was hosted by New York Daily News drama critic John Chapman (who was editing the Burns Mantle "Best
Plays" annual in print at the time). The show began as a summer replacement for "The Theatre Guild On The Air" but ran on NBC Radio for
52 episodes from 8 June 1952 to 20 Sept 1953 (46 of them are included here). From 4Oct1953 to 11 April 1954, Chapman continued this
basic format with the "NBC Star Playhouse" for 28 additional episodes (five of which are included here at the end).
